Eaddy sets school mark in rushing Rangers fall short of playoffs
Spencerport’s football team did all they could do on the final weekend of the regular season defeating Fairport 28-19, but did not get the help they needed in other games and were eliminated from the postseason on a tiebreaker.
Senior Tajh Eaddy rushed for 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 29 carries to lead the Rangers offense and break the school record for career rushing yards held by Trent Egenlauf. The new record is 1,197 yards.
Fairport took their first possession down the field on a 60 yard scoring drive to take what would prove to be their only lead of the game.
On the Rangers’ second possession, they marched down the field in 12 plays, including a third down 16-yard gain by Eaddy, before he scampered in on an 11-yard burst also on third down. Jordan Swilley’s extra point tied the game 7-7.
On their next possession, Tahj Snow took a double-handoff 68 yards for the touchdown to make it 14-7 Rangers.
The Red Raiders marched right back down the field to score, but their extra point attempt was blocked allowing Spencerport to hold a 14-13 advantage.
On the first play after the second half kickoff, Eaddy took a right sweep 74 yards for the score and a 21-13 lead.
With Fairport at the Rangers 31 yard line and driving, they fumbled the ball on a missed exchange on fourth down and inches with the Rangers Enzo Sacchetti recovering.
After a Rangers interception, Fairport took advantage of the short field to score, but their two-point conversion attempt failed making it 21-19 Rangers.
In the fourth quarter, Chris Cottom ended one Fairport drive with an interception and John Feeney helped end another forcing an incompletion with his pressure on the quarterback.
The Rangers then extended their lead to 28-19 on a nine-play drive capped by a Snow five-yard touchdown run off left tackle.
Alton Jones, Jr. ended the next Fairport drive with another interception and the Rangers ran out the clock.
Eaddy and Snow combined for 396 yards rushing in the contest and the Rangers gained 454 yards on the ground total.
“It’s really not me, but the strength of our offensive line,” Eaddy said of the unit of center Anthony Muscatella, guards Lucien Brisson and Michael Palluconi plus tackles Robert Winter and Vitally Gurman. “They are the best in Monroe County and our “D” came up clutch today. Nobody can stop us offensively, but it is bittersweet being our last game on our home field.”
The Rangers needed help from any one of three other games on the same night, but every team in contention with them for the final playoff spot won, eliminating them.
Seventeen seniors were honored prior to the game: Eaddy, Nick Paxson, Sacchetti, Landon Lussier, Cory O’Connor, Chris DiGuardi, Ben Perrone, Chris Tran, Branden Williams, Kris Concepcion, Steven Bischoff, Brisson, Brandon DiNatale, Zack Fedeli, Winter, Jake Suydam and Muscatella.
