Saints win nine swimming events in loss to York
Senior captain Kyle Podlaski, freshman Brandon Crist and sophomore Christian Montanez each won two individual events and Churchville-Chili won nine in all, but York used their team depth to defeat the Saints 99-83 in the boys swimming home opener.
Podlaski won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.72 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.78. Crist won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.59 and, just four events later, the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.85. Montanez took top honors in the sprints taking the 50-yard freestyle in :23.72 and the 100-yard freestyle in :52.86.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Crist, Podlaski, Kyle Wooding and Montanez opened the meet winning with a time of 1:49.78. The same group also won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:39.55 – more than 20 seconds ahead of second place.
Wooding, a sophomore, was the other Saints individual winner handily taking the 100-yard butterfly in :57.75.
The Saints field a squad of only 13 swimmers with five freshmen and three sophomores.
