Sharpe, Henshaw Pace Blue Devils
Senior Dylan Sharpe and junior Mitchell Henshaw each had one goal and one assist as Brockport avenged an earlier defeat with a 5-1 win over Spencerport in high school hockey.
Sharpe got his stick on a Henshaw point shot to stake the Blue Devils to a 1-0 lead at 6:30 of the first period.
The second power play unit made it 2-0 at 13:33 of the first as Koby Dusett converted off passes from Andrew Harley and Josh Hettinger.
“We were working with our second power play unit in practice just yesterday and it paid off,” Brockport head coach Greg Stahl said.
It was the special teams again in the second period that came through as Matt Roe on the left point put an innocent looking shot just inside the left post to increase the lead to 3-0.
With just 1:11 remaining in the second period, Carlton Ekiyor had a breakaway he was able to convert in spite of being slashed from behind to extend the Blue Devils lead to 4-0.
In the third period, Henshaw caught the Rangers goaltender without his stick and was able to deke around and score on the backhand with assists from Sharpe and Kirby Trask to make it 5-0.
Spencerport spoiled the shutout bid with a goal in the final two minutes as Brandon Corey tipped the shot from Tyler Decosse from the right point past the goaltender. Defenseman Max Moran was also credited with an assist.
Riley Emmerson was credited with 34 saves for the Blue Devils.
Brockport seniors Roe, Ekiyor, Trask, Hettinger, Jack Moore and Harley were all honored prior to the game.
