The Hamlin Recreation Department has opened their new concession stand for the sports season. Hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, and grilled cheese sandwiches are amongst the snacks now offered to hungry athletes and visitors to the Hamlin Town Park from Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 7:30pm. The concession stand was an added benefit to the kitchen that was recently completed through a grant by the Community Foundation in 2013. Not only is the Recreation Department now able to incorporate the Healthy Eating Project into its child care programs, but the proceeds of the Concession Stand will also support funding of recreation programs and events.
A Community Garden has also recently been added to the overall project of teaching interested residents about easy gardening techniques such as straw bale gardening, as well as showing children that a healthy snack can easily be created out of fresh vegetables. Cooking classes out of the garden’s produce will begin in late summer.
