Golden Eagles gymnastics team wins second in nation

The College at Brockport women’s gymnastics team took second in the 2016 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championship, 10 Golden Eagles earned All-American status and head coach John Feeney was named East and North East Regional Coach of the Year.

Brockport finished with 193.00 points—second to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s team score of 193.650. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater placed third with a 192.925.

Freshman Candis Kowalik took first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.850, earning her First-Team All-American honors. Senior Lily Jagodzinski was also named First-Team East by finishing fourth with a 9.775. Freshman Kendra Bushart and junior Kendal Hamer both earned Second-Team All-American honors, with Bushart taking 10th (9.600) and Hamer placing 11th (9.575).

Brockport had four of the top-ten in the floor exercise led by sophomore Brittany Vasile (9.825) in third, Kowalik (9.800) taking fourth and freshman Meghan Cash (9.775) placing fifth. All three earned First-Team All-American honors in the event while Jagodzinski placed 10th to land Second-Team All-American honors.

The Golden Eagles had two more First-Team All-Americans in the vault, with junior Jen Sklenar taking fourth with a score of 9.750 and freshman Stephanie Mager finishing fifth with a score of 9.725. On the bars, junior Maddie O’Braitis earned Second-Team All-American honors with a score of 9.700 and a ninth place finish.
