Holley sweeps in tennis
Senior-laden Holley swept visiting Kendall in straight sets through all three singles matches and both doubles to improve to 3-1 in the young season.
“We’re overachieving based on our experience level,” Holley head coach John Grillo said. “Most of these seniors played junior varsity last season, but they are stepping up and meeting the challenge. “We hope to be in contention for a league title.”
Senior Brady Smith won at first singles 6-1, 7-5; Pablo Romero at second singles 6-3, 6-1; and Cameron Bennage took third singles 6-0, 6-1.
Seniors Melanie Klossner and Gabe Mendoza won a first doubles 6-3, 6-1 while junior Derek McArthur and senior Jake DeSimone had no difficulty in the 6-0, 6-0 win at second doubles.
The Hawks have also defeated Pembroke and Oakfield-Alabama this season with their only loss a tight affair to two-time defending champ Alexander.
