Pearson, Glitzer combine on 3-hitter
Hannah Pearson and Annika Glitzer allowed only three hits and the Cadets scored in all but one inning as Hilton defeated Eastridge 11-3 in girls’ softball.
Hilton jumped out to a 1-0 in the first as Annika Glitzer stroked a one-out single, stole second and later scored on a dropped pop fly.
After Eastridge tied the game with an unearned run in their half of the second, the Cadets rallied to plate three in their half. Marissa Glitzer reached on a long double to left center, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a pickoff throw that went wide.
Brooke Schmitt walked Alyssa Juergens and, after a force play, Juergens scored on a dropped pop fly to short. Erin Richardson drove in the final run of the inning with a two-out single to give the Cadets a 4-1 advantage.
They made it 5-1 with another unearned run in the third as Amanda Rose had a one-out single, went to second on a Schmitt single and scored on yet another dropped infield pop-up.
The Lancers scored twice in the top of the fourth to pull to 5-3, but Hilton put the game out of reach with three more runs in the fifth.
Marissa Glitzer and Juergens both singled to put runners at first and third before they pulled off a double-steal with Glitzer scoring. Annika Glitzer walked, Juergens scored on an error and Glitzer later scored on a strikeout/wild pitch.
Hilton’s final three runs came in the sixth with Schmitt knocking in one with a double and two more scoring on errors.
Pearson started and threw the first four innings allowing two earned runs on two hits while striking out three and was credited with the win. Annika Glitzer pitched the final three innings, including striking out the side in the fifth, to earn the save.
