Jake Arrieta, pitcher for Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of April 2016. A select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA) conducted the voting and selected Arrieta based on his phenomenal performance throughout the month, including tossing a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds on April 21.
It was Arrieta’s second no-hitter, coming less than a year after throwing his first no-hitter on August 2015. For the month, Arrieta posted a 5-0 record and a 1.00 ERA.
His selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of April 2016 recognizes Arrieta as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the fourth candidate eligible to receive the overall Hickok Belt® Award for 2016, joining Novak Djokovic, Steph Curry and Jason Day.
