Henshaw, Hillabush, Palma and Sanborn named All-State

Brockport senior Mitchell Henshaw, Holley junior Dylan Hillabush, Hilton senior Dominic Palma and Churchville-Chili senior Billy Sanborn were all named the All-State baseball team by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Henshaw was named Class A Second Team at catcher. The senior batted .449 with an on-base percentage of .568. Of his 31 hits, three were homeruns, seven were doubles and he added one triple with 16 walks. He is committed to play Division 1 Junior College Baseball at Potomac State College in Keyser, West Virginia next season.

“Mitch’s success has come from his own hard work and dedication to the sport of baseball,” Blue Devils head coach Mathew Davis said.

Hillabush was named to the Class B Second Team at pitcher. The first team Genesee Region League All-Star finished with an 8-1 record on the mound. Over 57 innings, he struck out 78 batters and finished with a miniscule 0.85 ERA. He also hit .393 with four doubles and 17 RBIs.

“Dylan is very tough to hit off of and loves the pressure situations,” Holley head coach Jason Cole said. “Love having him as a coach.”

Palma was the Class AA Third Team pick at catcher. The senior batted .471 with an on-base percentage of .675 and a slugging percentage over .700. He also drew 26 walks, was hit by six pitches and threw out over 40 percent of the attempted baserunners.

“Dom is going to play at Manhattan College on a partial scholarship and we are very excited for him as all of his hard work over the years has paid off,” Hilton head coach Jeff Murphy said.

Sanborn was the Class AA Seventh Team selection as outfielder/pitcher. The senior, who heads to Jefferson County Community College in Watertown this fall, hit .378 (28-for-74) with five doubles and three triples, scored 16 runs, had 13 RBIs and was 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts. On the mound, the right-hander finished the year with a 3-2 record and a 1.68 ERA. In 41.2 innings pitched, he struck out 44 batters while limiting them to a .199 batting average.

“Billy was someone you could count on to do a number of things whether it be steal you a base, close out a game for you or come up with a key hit,” Saints head coach Jake Dennstedt said.
