Senior Ryan Richardson scored the first two goals and assisted on the third Byron-Bergen Elba to a 3-0 boys’ soccer victory – their third of the young season.
Richardson’s first goal came just 5:26 into the contest as he took a through-pass from junior Kylar Chambry, one touched around the charging goalkeeper and found the back of the net for a 1-0 Bees lead.
Holley fond some offensive rhythm early in the second half as two shots cleared the crossbar and another was tipped just wide over the first 19 minutes of the second stanza.
Byron-Bergen gave themselves a cushion at 62:09 as junior Brendan Kendall intercepted a goal-kick at midfield and quickly found Wade Thompson. He passed down the left wing to Richardson, who put it into the upper right corner of the net.
Speed was a factor on the third tally as Richardson raced around a defender and along the left end-line before finding a wide open Aaron Gaytan sitting on the far post for an easy tap-in for the final goal.
Bees goalkeeper Brandon Kropf made four saves to register his second consecutive shutout and help them improve to 3-0-0. They also hold a 2-0 lead against Wheatland-Chili in the championship game of their annual tournament – a game halted by lightning last Saturday.
“His goal is to score every game, Byron-Bergen head coach Ken Rogoyski said of Richardson. “It’s tough because of how close he is marked. On that last goal three defenders converged on him and he was able to make the pass.
“The 3-0 score doesn’t really reflect how close this game was; it is very misleading. Every game against Holley is a battle and always has been.”
Even with the loss, the Hawks sit atop the Genesee Division with a 2-1-0 record and are 3-2-0 overall.
