Bees netters roll to 7-1 record
With only two seniors on the roster, Byron-Bergen’s girls’ volleyball squad improved their record to 7-1 and 6-0 in division play after their three-set sweep at Kendall.
The first set began with Lauren Burke registering two of her game-high eight aces and the Bees built a 7-2 lead.
Kendall fought back with two kills by Alexis Payton and another from Madison Rath as they closed to within 9-7, but Byron-Bergen outscored them 16-9 down the stretch to secure the win. Freshman Madison Farnsworth had a pair of kills during the run while Annabella Vurraro added an ace.
The second set got out of hand quickly as Quinn Chappel, Stephanie Buell and Catherine Brumsted helped the Bee’s establish a 12-2 advantage. Janae Meister also had a kill before senior Kerri Bates finished the win with three aces over a four-point stretch.
The Eagles rebounded and took a 2-0 lead in the third set on an ace by Sunni Brice, but the Bees then rattled off nine consecutive points including Lauren Burke hitting on four consecutive aces.
Kendall’s Payton and Rath knocked down kills to pull them to within 16-8, but the Bees locked down the contest with Burke hitting a cross-court kill Buell registering a kill and an ace on consecutive points.
Burke finished with five kills, five assists, eight aces and three digs for the Bees while Buell added four kills. Brumsted had four assists, two kills and three aces and Farnsworth racked up a team-high six digs with a pair of aces.
Payton led the 5-3 eagles with five kills and seven digs.
