Fahmer’s three points pace Rangers

Junior captain Luca Fahmer scored twice and assisted on another goal to lead Spencerport to a 3-1 victory over visiting Hilton in girls’ soccer. The 11-0-1 Rangers entered the week ranked fifth in New York State among Class A schools.

The Rangers had five scoring chances to just one for Hilton over the first 40 minutes, but Cadets goalkeeper Samantha Pelcher made four saves with the fifth chance sailing just over the crossbar on a direct kick.

Spencerport didn’t take long to finally get on the scoreboard in the second half with Fahmer finding the upper right corner of the net in the 41st minute.

Just two minutes later it was Fahmer again redirecting a free kick by Leah Wengender for a 2-0 lead.

In the 54th minute, Fahmer placed a corner kick perfectly where senior Brooke Antinoro found the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.

Hilton broke up the shutout bid in the 67th minute when senior captain Kyndal Hetzel hit a direct kick from 30 yards out that one-bounced on the turf over the head of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The Rangers are trying to become the first in program history to go undefeated with four games remaining in the regular season. They were undefeated in their first seven games on the road. The best season in school history was 1980-81 when they were 16-1-2 and Section V co-champions.

“I like the road, but it’s good to be home,” Rangers head coach Jamie Schneider said. “We have good movement off the ball and are making good decisions with the ball. We’ve outplayed everyone across the board with our passing and movement.”

The Rangers outshot the Cadets 7-1 in the game.
