Rangers trying for first repeat in program history

Spencerport’s boys’ volleyball team has won five Section V championships, but they have never won in consecutive years.

Led by four-year starter Josh Rabidoux, the Rangers defeated Churchville-Chili 25-23, 19-25, 27-25, 25-17 and are undefeated in division matches over the last four years.

Tied 21-21 in the first game, Eric Jackson had two kills and Kiernan Crowley one over the final four points,

Leading 16-9 in the second game, the Saints hung on for the win with the Rangers finishing on a 9-5 run down the stretch giving them some momentum heading into the third.

Knotted 24-24, Rabidoux registered two kills and the winning point came on a net serve in the Rangers’ 27-25 win.

And they built an 11-point lead in the final set, but Jackson had a pair of kills with Alex Caton and Rabidoux also adding kills down the stretch to secure the win.

Rabidoux, the first All-Greater Rochester boys’ volleyball selection in 12 years and vying for tops for kills in Rangers history with 2001 grad Justin Waas, led with 18 kills in the contest. Jackson added 16 kills, Jaden Gillette had 17 assists and Nathan Hueber led with 17 digs. Caton added two blocks to go with his three kills with Josh Hubbard and Crowley combining for 11 kills.

The Rangers previous Section V titles came in 1973, 1976, 1990, 2001 and 2016.
