Fourth-ranked Rangers romp
Dom Vinci, Mason Wersinger and Dom Ferranti each registered major decisions to lead Spencerport wrestling to a 39-23 victory over host Brockport.
Vinci led his 99 lb. bout 7-1 after two periods before turning it on in the third with two takedowns, one near-fall and an escape in his 15-5 win.
Wersinger, ranked number one in the region at 138 lb. by armdrag.com, finished off his major decision with four third period takedowns in a 17-6 victory. And Ferranti registered three takedowns in each of the first two periods to take his 152 lb. bout 14-5.
Elliott Cherniss began the match with a first period takedown and third period escape in his 3-1 decision at 220 lb. Tyler Mitchell had at least four points in each period of his workmanlike 13-8 decision at 132 lb. And Justin Fargnoli broke a 2-2 tie in his 182 lb. match with a third period escape and takedown to earn a 5-3 win.
Ryan Cottom (285 lb.), Carlos Vargas (160 lb.) and Dexter Craig (170 lb.) all won via forfeit for the Rangers.
For the Blue Devils, senior Cody Enders registered his 100th career pin taking just 26 seconds at 120 lb. and Jagger Kachmaryk finished the match with a pin in 3:32 at 195 lb.
Senior Tyler Daly ended his home high school wrestling career with a 15-2 major decision at 113 lb. Classmate Troy Ferris (145 lb.) also finished on a high note with a 12-4 major decision thanks to a six-point third period. And Ryan Daly used a third period escape to eke out a 3-2 decision at 106 lb.
