Mendon spoils Brockport Senior Night
Brockport and Pittsford-Mendon combined for 54 points in a wild fourth quarter, but unfortunately the Vikings netted 31 of those as they defeated the Blue Devils 73-58 in boy’s basketball.
Senior Amire Odey kept Brockport alive in the first quarter with six points as the Vikings led 14-12.
Neither team made more than two consecutive baskets in a second quarter that featured nine lead changes, but Odey added eight more points while senior Jacob Jurhs knocked down a three-pointer and senior Cory Gross a lay-up to make it a one-point Mendon lead at the half.
The Vikings opened up the second half on a 13-6 run before a late turnaround basket by Brockport senior Noah Schultz and a drive by Gross made it 42-35 after three quarters.
Mendon then blew open the game with their 31-point fourth quarter outburst which included a 15-5 run midway through.
Odey led the Blue Devils with 23 points while Jurhs scored 14 and Gross added 12 for Brockport.
The game marked the final regular season home game for seniors Odey, Jurhs, Gross. Schultz, Dan Yaeger and Michael Kruger.
The Blue Devils entered the Section V playoffs seeded eighth in Class A1 and hosted ninth seed Brighton in the first round. The winner plays top-seed Greece Athena.
