Symetra, Brook-Lea, Pluta Foundation agree to three-year extension, keeping women’s golf in Rochester
The LPGA Symetra Tour and Brook-Lea Country Club are proud to announce they have reached terms with tournament organizers for a three-year extension, continuing the rich tradition of professional women’s golf in Rochester through 2020. In addition to the new agreement, the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic is announcing a new charitable beneficiary, the Pluta Cancer Center Foundation.
“We are thrilled to extend a four-decade tradition of professional women’s golf in Rochester with the continuation of the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic,” said tournament co-chairman Mike Vadala. “The Pluta Cancer Center Foundation also represents the best of the area’s talents, and we are proud to support the exciting, innovative solutions they bring to patients and their families battling cancer.”
The fourth annual Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic will be held July 16 through 22 at Brook-Lea Country Club, which was the home course of tournament namesake Danielle Downey. Over the past three years, the tournament has hosted numerous talented professional golfers and about 20 percent of the LPGA’s current top 100 money winners have come through Rochester and played in the tournament.
“Rochester is a great golf community and has been supportive of professional women’s golf for 42 years,” said Mike Nichols, the chief business officer for the Symetra Tour. “The Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic is one of the all-around top events on the Symetra Tour. We have a great relationship with the team there and are proud to bring the future stars of the LPGA to the Empire State for many years to come.”
