Saints can’t overcome early deficit
Churchville-Chili spotted visiting Rush-Henrietta a 6-0 lead through the first three innings and their middle inning comeback fell short in a 10-3 loss in boys baseball.
Saints Junior Jaden Nelomes broke up the shutout bid with a two-out solo home run to left into a stiff wind in the bottom of the third inning to cut the Royal Comets lead to 6-1.
They also rallied in the fourth inning as senior Ryan Demitrovic led off with a single to center and, after a passed ball put him at second base, advanced to third on a single by senior Michael Mule. The two then pulled off a double steal with Demitrovic scoring. Sophomore catcher John Bagley followed with an RBI single to right scoring Mule from second to make it 6-3 Rush-Henrietta.
But the Royal Comets plated a single run with a two-out rally in the sixth and three more on a bases-loaded triple in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Nelomes, Demitrovic and Bagley each had two-hit games while Mule and seventh inning pinch hitter Jacob Carroll each added one hit to the Saints offense.
