Four Rangers celebrate college signing

Other area athletes commit

Spencerport seniors Natalie Choate, Erin Coykendall, Camryn Sack and Olivia Wall each celebrated their signing national letters of intent to advance their lacrosse careers to the collegiate level in a ceremony December 18.

Each had officially committed earlier, but the joint ceremony brought the teammates together again prior to their senior campaigns.

Choate is committed at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. “It’s feels great; I’ve been waiting for this for a really long time and it feels like a dream come true,” she said in an interview with 89.1 The Point.

Choate led the Rangers last spring with 53 goals and was second with 83 points. Spencerport fell to Brighton 10-9 in the Section V title game.

“We haven’t won sectional yet and that’s one of biggest goals and what we’ve wanted since the beginning,” she said about her impending final high school lacrosse season.

Coykendall will compete for Northwestern University. She led the Rangers with 68 assists and 114 points in 2018.

“I obviously knew I was committed there, but now it’s really close and it’s really exciting,” Coykendall said. “I think that over the years it has set in (that she will play in college), but we still have another season so that’s my main focus and when that’s over it will really start to set in.”

Sack will head to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh this fall after finishing third on the Rangers in goals (32) and points (66).

“It feels really good because I worked really hard for it and it’s something that I always wanted to do,” Sack said. “We’re all really close and we grew up playing together, so we all kind of went through recruiting at different times.”

Wall will suit up at Cornell University next fall after spending one more high school season as the primary defender for the Rangers.

“Definitely relief; it’s been a long journey since seventh grade until now and happiness for sure,” Wall said. “To be able to do it with those girls; we’ve been playing lacrosse together since second grade…and it’s really cool to see it come together.

“We’re going our separate ways, but we have one more season together to hopefully win sectionals.

It’s (Cornell) a great engineering school and that’s what I want to go into and the lacrosse program and coaches were amazing. They were willing to accommodate me and everything that I want to do when I get there, and it’s the perfect distance from home.”
