Kendall boys rally falls short
Down by 18 points at halftime, Kendall rallied to close to within one point with 4:15 remaining in regulation before running out of gas in a 67-55 loss to visiting Attica.
Eagles senior co-captain Nathan Warters kept the game within reach as he scored ten first half points along with a trey from sophomore Derek Edick and a field goal by senior point guard John Rath before the Blue Devils used a 14-2 run late in the second quarter to double-up the Eagles 36-18 at the half.
The two teams opened the second half trading baskets with Rath hitting a pair of treys, Warters a lay-up and a put-back with junior Nick Spellan adding a three-pointer. Edick knocked down two free throws and Rath an old-fashioned three-point play as the Eagles ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run to close to within eight points of the lead.
In the fourth quarter, Rath added two free throws and a three-pointer, Edick a three-pointer and Warters on a steal to close to within 54-53 with 4:15 remaining.
But the Eagles ran out of gas hitting just one field goal the rest of the way.
Rath led the Eagles with 21 points and added four rebounds and three steals while Warters had 16 points and Edick was also in double-figures with 12 to go with five rebounds and four steals. Senior co-captain Hunter Menze had a team-high seven rebounds and junior Brian Shaw added four boards for the 6-8 Eagles.
They will honor their seniors February 5 prior to the final regular season home contest.
