Golden Eagles Gymnasts #1 in nation
The College at Brockport women’s gymnastics team set a new school and regional record with 193.700 points to win the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association East Regional Competition against SUNY Cortland, Ithaca College, Springfield College, Ursinus College and Rhode Island College.
That earned them a chance to win their second women’s gymnastics national title at the NCGA National Championship March 23 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The qualifying teams from the western region are University of Wisconsin (UW)-Stout, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater. The qualifying teams from the eastern region are Brockport, Ithaca and Cortland.
Brockport enters the final six ranked first in the nation on the vault and floor, ranked second on the uneven bars and fourth on the balance beam.
In individual national rankings, senior and 2019 NCGA Eastern Region Gymnast of the Year Candis Kowalik is first in the All Around, vault and floor and sixth on the balance beam, classmate Stephanie Mager and freshman Nikki Jackson are tied for second in the vault with Mager also slotted eighth on the floor.
Senior Taylor Keough trails sophomore teammate Rachel Doll (#3) at sixth on the uneven bars and stands seventh on the floor.
2019 NCGA East Region Rookie of the Year Lexi Castellantea enters the finals ranked second on the floor with Kim Musall sixth.
In addition to the new team record set at the Eastern Regional, Kowalik also set a new school record with 38.925 on the vault.
The Golden Eagles won their other national title in 2012 and enter the finals having produced 15 individual National Champions and 87 All-Americans in program history.
