Rangers announce new coaches
Spencerport Central Schools has named three new varsity coaches – Deborah Burke, girls and boys varsity swimming; Mike Butler, varsity girls basketball; and Jody Wyant, boys varsity soccer.
Burke brings a great deal of knowledge and enthusiasm to the program, having been a swim coach for over 20 years. A graduate of Mississippi State with a degree in psychology, Burke has dedicated the last 20 years serving as an assistant coach with Fairport Swimming, Inc. Additionally, Burke has served as the girls and boys varsity swim coach at Irondequoit High School for the past four seasons.
Burke will replace Coach Austin Nau, who resigned at the culmination of the 2018-2019 season.
Butler brings over 25 years of coaching experience in both boys and girls soccer and basketball, carrying one State championship with the Athena boys soccer team, and 11 Section V championships, six with the Athena girls basketball team. Butler is a three-time All Greater Rochester Coach of the Year, seven-time Monroe County Coach of the Year, and four-time Section V Coach of the Year. Most recently, Butler has served as the boys junior varsity basketball coach with the Hilton Central School District.
A graduate of The College at Brockport, Butler is a physical education teacher in the Greece Central School District.
Butler will replace Wendy Vergamini, who resigned at the end of the 2018-2019 season.
Wyant brings a great deal of knowledge and enthusiasm to the program, having been a coach in the Rangers girls soccer program since 2001, and helping the team in their State Championship runs in 2016 and 2017. He has served as the girls junior varsity coach for the past 13 seasons. Wyant will replace long time coach, Tom Etsler, who retired at the end of this past season.
A graduate of The College at Brockport, Wyant is currently a social studies teacher at Spencerport High School and has been with the district for 19 years.
