Rehwaldt, Koukides, Pocock pace Bees sweep
Junior Alaura Rehwaldt, sophomore Peyton Koukides, and junior Jaden Pocock each won two individual events and were part of at least one victorious relay team as Byron-Bergen/Leroy swept Oakfield-Alabama 66-24 and 54-34 in girls and boys swimming respectively.
Rehwaldt won the 200-individual medley in 2:36.48 and the 100-freestyle by over 18 seconds in 1:00.99 and, with sophomores Jorie Strzelecki, Koukides and Grace Shepard, took the 400-freestyle relay in 4:17.51.
Koukides touched first in the 200-freestyle in 2:11.68 and the 100-breaststroke in 1:20.63 while Strzelecki won the 100-backstroke in 1:09.94. Eighth-grader Natalee Shepard easily won the 50-freestyle in :27.93 – just over four seconds faster than her closest competitor – and freshman Leyna Wheeler was tops in the 500-freestyle in 6:39.39.
The Shepards, Wheeler, and senior Emily Gonyea won the 200-freestyle relay in 2:05.51 while the young squad of freshmen Cassidy Ball, Emma Hobart, Julia Will and eighth-grader Emma Starowitz opened the meet taking the 200-medley relay in 2:06.09.
For the boys, Pocock won the 200-freestyle in 2:12:00 and the 500-freestyle in 6:11.41, and was part of the winning 400-freestyle relay team with senior Sam Austin, sophomore Jackson Locke, and freshman Aiden Soggs in 4:23.46. He also teamed with Locke and sophomores Brett Babcock and Brady Fix to take the 200-freestyle relay in 1:50.32.
Locke also finished first in the 100-breaststroke in 1:18.24, Fix the 50-freestyle in :25.57, and Babcock the 100-freestyle in 1:07.56. Junior Isaiah Merrell touched the wall first in the 200-individual medley in 2:55.36.
