Spencerport’s Jake Welch returns to York Revolution
Jake Welch, a 2011 graduate of Spencerport High School, returned to the Atlantic League’s York Revolution after joining the team in September of last season for the playoffs.
The 6’6” 26-year-old right-handed pitcher was acquired from the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League. In two seasons with the Frontier League, Welch was 15-11 with a 3.35 ERA. In 28 starts, the Spencerport native threw 234.1 total innings and struck out 205. In his last season with the Otters, Welch finished with a 2.93 ERA and 127 strikeouts with only 38 walks, ranking him third in strikeouts in the league. He has won three division titles and one championship title in the past five years.
York Revolution skipper, Mark Mason, stated, “He showed a lot of promise last year, that was the most innings he’s pitched in his career in one season. For younger guys, there is an adjustment you have to make with that. I think having Jake here from the beginning of the year with a fresh arm and getting him to fall into a different type of routine that will be built for more longevity.”
Welch is a graduate of Notre Dame of Ohio and is the son of Bob and Jennifer Welch of Spencerport.
