Churchville-Chili grad Lewis nets 1,000th career point for Roberts Wesleyan

History was made February 21 as senior Isaiah Lewis scored his 1000th career point for the Roberts Wesleyan men’s basketball team in a 100-67 win over D’Youville College on senior day.

“Coming into the game tonight, the guys in the locker room were teasing me and reminding me that I was 14 (points) away, so it’s been exciting and a testament to how good my teammates have been over the years, a lot of hard work and trusting that God has a plan and it’s special,” Lewis said on the streamed postgame audio interview.

The pre-Physical Therapy major knocked down a three-pointer early in the second half for his milestone points – the first Redhawk in the Division II era to accomplish the feat.

“Not many people get to play at a school in their hometown for four years, so that part is a blessing,” the former First-Team All-County and Most Valuable Player at Churchville-Chili said to the video stream after the game. “It’s something to easily take for granted once you are here putting in the work and long days and that sort of thing.

“I’m sure I will do a lot of reflecting over these next couple of days, knowing there were a lot of good memories made here, a lot of fun getting to play a lot of basketball in this gym, and it’s been special.”

Roberts head coach Mark Saladzius talked about the Lewis family heritage with the college.

“The lineage of his mom and dad coming here and his brother (sophomore guard Eric) being here. The production he has had for us on and off the court, being a leader for us and representing the program the way that he does, and obviously being a great player.”

With two regular season games remaining in his collegiate career, Lewis stood second on the team averaging 14.3 points per game this season, led the squad with 24 steals, and was second with 37 assists. He also led the Redhawks (among regulars) in three-pointers and at the free throw line shooting 88.5 percent.
