The U.S. Figure Skating Graduating Seniors Program recognizes students who have balanced competitive excellence and dedication to their sport with high academic achievement during high school. Churchville-Chili High School’s Francesca Ziobro was recently honored with the organization’s Gold Level Graduating Seniors Award for 2022.
“This is a unique award which Francesca richly deserves,” said C-CHS Principal Scott Wilson. “She excels in all she does and still finds time to help others. We’re very happy to see her many accomplishments recognized.”
Ziobro has been figure skating competitively for 10 years, as well as coaching younger skaters for more than five years. She has achieved the highest gold-level status in three different styles of figure skating: Moves in the Field, Dance, and Free Dance. Her sport requires many hours of practice – nine hours a week and more. Her high school academic career has also been demanding. She has taken accelerated courses in math and science since seventh grade. She is currently an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma candidate, the most rigorous track to graduation the school offers. The two-year IB program at C-CHS is an academically challenging and balanced program of education that seeks to promote the “whole person” and develop skills for a rapidly globalizing world.
“In addition to being an accomplished athlete and scholar, Francesca is a member of National Honor Society and participates in the school’s Foreign Language Club and GRR Team 340 Robotics,” said Counselor Marjorie Rudy. “Last summer, she took part in the National Student Leadership Conference (https://www.nslcleaders.org), which focused on international business. She plans to attend Bentley University in Boston, majoring in business finance. Francesca hopes to continue developing her figure skating skills at college.”
U.S. Figure Skating is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States. Founded in 1921, the association has more than 750-member, school-affiliated and collegiate clubs. Ziobro trains with the Genesee Figure Skating Club in Rochester.
The U.S. Figure Skating Graduating Seniors Award recognizes the hard work of student athletes who have participated in figure skating throughout high school; awards are given at the Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, level based off a skater’s level of competitive achievement in high school. Selection for this award speaks to a skater’s continued commitment to succeeding in their athletic and academic endeavors.
