Justin Thomas named Hickok Belt® Award Winner for May 2022
Justin Thomas, one of the most popular professional golfers on the PGA Tour, has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for May 2022. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). Thomas was selected based on his win at the 2022 PGA Tour Championship, the second major of his career. At the start of the final round, the 29-year-old came from a seven strokes deficit, defeating Will Zalatoris. This feat tied the largest final round comeback in the history of the PGA Championship. In the final round, Thomas capped off a dramatic ending to the tournament against leader Mito Pereira and claiming the Wanamaker Trophy for the second time.
Other finalists for May in order of how the NSMA voters ranked them were: Rich Strike (Sonny Leon – jockey) (horse racing), Jayson Tatum (basketball), Connor McDavid (hockey), Giannis Antetokounmpo (basketball), Paul Goldschmidt (baseball), Andrei Vasilevskiy (hockey), Dimitri Bivol (boxing), and Minjee Lee (golf).
Thomas’s selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for May 2022 not only recognizes him as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month, it also makes him the third candidate eligible to receive the overall award for 2022, joining Scottie Scheffler, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Cooper Kupp plus other finalists selected throughout the year based on NSMA voting.
