NYS Senior Games for Croquet held in Rochester

Although many of the New York State Senior Games are held in Cortland, Rochester had the distinction of holding the Senior Games for Croquet at the Grace & Truth
SportsPark on Saturday, June 25. With ten players hailing from Buffalo, Lewiston, Hamilton, and the greater Rochester area, each player participated in four games of doubles block play in the U.S. Croquet Association rules for Golf Croquet, before seeding to finals play.  Play was waterford-style with each person playing with a different partner each game which makes it social and levels the playing field.

Several games saw hotly contested wickets as players worked with their partners to be the first side to score each wicket in order. While all participants received an official Senior Games tee shirt, lanyard, and lapel pin, only six would win the honor of taking home a medal. Art Fuchs (Buffalo) and John Robak (Greece) took gold, James Peasley (Spencerport) and Peter Sherer (Greece) took silver, and Lee Kirk (Penfield) and Joel MacDonald (Lewiston) took bronze.

The public is invited to check out this lawn sport during the Rochester Croquet Club’s regular play times. More information can be found at RocCroquet.org or by calling 585-474-3753.
