Our Politics Have Become Nasty

I submitted this to a weekly “alternative” newspaper here in Rochester, New York. I want to share the overall “message” and “point” of it with others——It is NOT about “Suburban News”————-

I am writing this because I believe that your newspaper owes an apology to County Legislator RB. What bothered me the most about the unfair and unjust treatment of her by your newspaper was when I saw that the newspaper had given some kind of “award” (I think it was for so-called “satire”) to a website and Twitter site that was called “FAKE RB.” This was a site that was written by some anonymous and un-named COWARD who used it to insult her, mock her, make fun of her, and try to publically humiliate and embarass her. It called her a “prom queen”, frequently accused her of being “full of herself” (those are my words), and of having what the coward called “an oversized ego.”

I never found this to be “satire.” It was cruel, spiteful, vindictive, and sadistic. I found nothing “funny” about it. No one deserves to be treated like this. It had to hurt her feelings. It was wrong to give it an award. She deserves an apology.

When it comes to how nasty our politics have become, I will quote Al Pacino from the movie “And Justice For All” by saying “I have now concluded my opening statement.”
