Byron-Bergen Jr. HS Named A 2026 Best Middle School

U.S. News & World Report has named Byron-Bergen Junior High School as a 2026 Best Middle School, placing 415 overall out of 2,861 schools in New York State and 261 in New York State for Reading Proficiency. Ranked schools were scored on their pupils’ state assessment test results in the context of socioeconomic demographics, graduation rates, and how well students are prepared for high school.
In New York State, 46% of students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 51% tested at or above that level for math. At Byron-Bergen Junior High School, 71% of students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 52% tested at or above that level for math.
“This achievement, especially in reading proficiency, is a reflection of the intentional emphasis our teachers put on benchmarking core competencies,” said Jr./Sr. High School Principal Paul Hazard. “And we really can’t discount the hard work and enthusiasm of our students. Great work, everyone!”
This is the second year that the Junior High School has achieved a U.S. News & World Report rank. The Senior High School has been recognized on the list annually since 2019.
