59th Annual Teike-Bernabi Wrestling Tournament

Spencerport High School recently hosted the 59th annual Teike–Bernabi Wrestling Tournament, one of the area’s longest-running and most respected. Sponsored by the Spencerport Rotary Club, it’s a staple for developing wrestlers and showcasing talent. Hundreds of wrestlers from Upstate New York competed. The tournament honors two men: Leo Bernabi, who was a longtime educator and coach, and Walt Teike, who helped build the school’s wrestling program into one known across the state.
The Spencerport team finished fourth overall with seven wrestlers placing in the top 6 of their respective weight classes.
Rangers who placed individually:
- Porter Vega – 175 lbs. Champion and Most Outstanding Wrestler
- Jeremiah Morgan – 3rd Place, 285 lbs.
- Carter White – 4th Place, 150 lbs.
- Jacob Hill – 5th Place, 138 lbs.
- Tate Wardman – 6th Place, 157 lbs.
- Bryson Clark – 6th Place, 126 lbs.

Coach Christopher Gray said, “Congratulations to Porter Vega, our hometown 175 lbs. champion and Heavyweight Most Outstanding Wrestler—an incredible accomplishment that makes the Spencerport community proud! On behalf of the coaching staff and the entire Spencerport Wrestling program, thank you to our Spencerport Rotary Club, the Parents Club, and all volunteers who helped run this year’s tournament. Celebrating 59 years of this event is something truly special, and it would not be possible without your dedication and support. Thank you, all!”
As for other local participants, Brockport’s team finished third overall and had two weight-class champions: Owen Courtney (150 lbs.) and Dylan Fitzgerald (190 lbs.).
