Planning for America 250 in Parma

Committee welcomes ideas
On Thursday, February 12, members of the Parma Hilton Historical Society Committee met to discuss plans for how Parma and Hilton will celebrate America 250, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain.
Current plans include an activity book for young people featuring stories of Revolutionary War veterans buried in Parma, along with historic points of interest in Parma and Hilton. Additionally, suggestions were made for decorating, including the recommendation to fly America 250 Betsy Ross flags on public buildings.
The Village Historian’s Office window has an America 250 display honoring a different Parma Revolutionary War Veteran each month of 2026. The Parma Hilton Historical Society Museum will also feature special decorations, and an event to honor the 14 Parma Revolutionary War Veterans on the Fourth of July is in the planning stages.
The recreation department is working on special activities during Parma’s annual Summer Smash.
Additional planning meetings are forthcoming. Anyone who is part of an organization’s planning committee and would like to share or contribute ideas is asked to contact the Parma Hilton Historical Society by email at Parmahiltonhistory@gmail.com.
