Memorial Day Observances
Brockport: The Brockport Area Veterans Club will be holding its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, followed by a Chicken BBQ. Tickets for the Chicken BBQ are $15; pre-paid tickets are guaranteed a dinner. Please call 585-637-5012 to reserve tickets.
CHILI: The annual Chili Memorial Day Parade, hosted by Chili American Legion Post #1830, will be held on Monday, May 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m. There is a new parade route this year. The parade begins at 3231 Chili Avenue (the former Chili Fire Department Co. # 1) and will proceed on Chili Avenue to Old Scottsville-Chili Road and then on Memorial Park to the Chili Veterans Memorial located in front of the Chili Community Center. A ceremony will be held at the Chili Veterans Memorial following the parade. There will be a subsequent ceremony at 11 a.m. at Chili American Legion Post #1830, 450 Scottsville-Chili Road, Scottsville. It will be followed by the Legion’s Memorial Day Picnic from 1 to 5 p.m. at the post. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors for an afternoon of food, community, and remembrance. All are welcome.
CHURCHVILLE: Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade on Monday, May 25. The ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. at Churchville Elementary School. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. and travels through the village. Held rain or shine. Concludes at the cemetery with a tribute at the Civil War Memorial.
GREECE: The Memorial Day Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 25, traveling along Long Pond Road from Janes Road to the Greece Town Hall Campus. Remembrance Ceremony at the Town Hall Pavilion at 11:45 a.m. Parking available at the Greece Town Campus until approximately 10:45 a.m., and road closures will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on parts of Long Pond and Janes Roads.
HAMLIN: Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at VFW Post 6703, 1739 Lake Road. Free community lunch to follow.
HILTON: Hiscock-Fishbaugh American Legion Post 788 will pass out Memorial Day Poppies on Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, at the Hilton Family Restaurant in Hovey Square and in front of Tops Market on South Avenue.
On Monday, May 25, members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6105, and the Parma-Hilton Honor Guard will honor our fallen servicemembers with a flag-lowering ceremony at Parma Union Cemetery, 260 Parma Center Road, Hilton, at 8 a.m. Immediately following, a second ceremony will take place at the memorial flagpole in front of the Parma Town Hall, 1300 Hilton-Parma Corners Road.
Hilton’s Memorial Day Parade is on Monday, May 25, stepping off at 10:30 a.m. from the west driveway of St. Paul Lutheran School, proceeding west to Main Street, and continuing to West Avenue. Marchers will turn on Henry Street, where the parade ends at the Hilton Community Center. At 11 a.m., or after the last parade unit arrives at the Community Center, the Veterans organizations will conduct a short ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on the south lawn of the Hilton Community Center. After placing a wreath in front of the memorial, the Parma-Hilton Honor Guard will render a gun salute. The ceremony will close with the playing of Taps.
All events are open to the public. Civic or youth groups interested in marching in the parade should contact American Legion Post 788 at legionpost788@gmail.com or through its Facebook page @legionpost788. No political candidates or political organizations will be allowed to march; elected officials should contact Post 788 if interested in participating in any ceremonies.
HOLLEY: Memorial Day ceremonies begin on May 25 at 9 a.m. with a service at the American Legion Post. Following the service, attendees will proceed to Hillside Cemetery, where the ceremony will continue with the playing of Taps. It will conclude at Jewell Buckman’s grave. A final prayer service will be held at the Catholic cemetery.
KENDALL: Memorial Day Celebration on May 30, 7 p.m., at the Gazebo across from the Elementary School.
SPENCERPORT: Spencerport’s Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony is Monday, May 25, starting at 9 a.m. The parade starts at the corner of the Union and Amity Street. It will travel south on Union to Memorial Park (Union and Old Spencerport-Brockport Road) across from Fairfield Cemetery. There will be a 30-minute ceremony and then return to the starting point.
