Gold Award Girl Scouts

Four Local Residents Earn Highest Honor in Girl Scouting
Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY) recently announced 41 Girl Scouts as the 2026 recipients of the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting. These inspiring young leaders completed sustainable, community-focused projects that addressed issues ranging from mental health and environmental stewardship to accessibility, education, and community wellness throughout Western New York.
Local recipients are Alexis Maysick of Churchville, Annabella Nichols of Hilton, Ella Newman of Hilton, and Melina Moscicki of North Chili.
The Girl Scout Gold Award recognizes Girl Scouts who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through projects that create lasting change in their communities and beyond. Each project represents approximately 80 hours of planning, leadership, and hands-on service while reflecting on the character that Girl Scouts develop through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
Alexis Maysick’s project, “Commemorative Flag Retirement Firepit,” created a respectful and lasting space dedicated to proper American flag retirement ceremonies and education. Her work will continue serving community members for years to come.
Annabella Nichols’ project, “Sensory Calming Strategies,” focused on creating resources and supportive tools to help individuals with sensory needs better manage overwhelming situations. Through education and accessible calming strategies, Annabella helped create a more inclusive and supportive environment for others.
Ella Newman’s project, “Sensory Bags for Summer Camp,” focused on creating more inclusive camp experiences by providing resources and tools to support campers with sensory needs.
Melina Moscicki’s project, “STAR System: A PBIS Plan,” focused on creating positive behavioral support systems and helping encourage stronger learning environments for students.
“From the youngest ages, community service is at the heart of the Girl Scout experience. The prestigious Gold Award represents the change that Girl Scouts can make when they combine passion, leadership, and purpose,” said Cara Biddlecom, CEO of Girl Scouts of Western New York. “Through their dedication to service, these Girl Scouts are not only making a lasting impact in their communities today but also building a strong foundation for future success, wherever their interests take them. The leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills they develop through Girl Scouts and the Gold Award experience will continue to guide them as they write their next chapter as confident young leaders.”
