PHHS Launches Contests for America 250

The celebrations and commemorations surrounding America 250 remind us to stop and appreciate the history around us. Parma Hilton Historical Society is kicking off two contests to help residents of all ages do just that.
The Parma Historic Marker Activity and Coloring Contest is open to children ages 12 and under. Many historical markers are placed around the town and the village to ‘mark’ an important event or person from Parma or Hilton history. This contest invites children to create their own historic marker. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.parmahiltonhistoricalsociety.com/events/ or picked up from the Parma Public Library or PHHS Museum, 1300 Hilton Parma Corners Road. Kids can color in the page and come up with a short description for their marker by researching a local, personal, or family story. Consider a significant, often overlooked spot, like a favorite park, an old building, or the site of a personal memory, and design a special marker in honor of this historic year. The contest runs from June 15 through September 15. Prizes will be awarded by age category: 5 and under, 6-8, and 9-12. Drop off submissions at either the Parma Public Library or the PHHS Museum.
The America 250 Photography Contest is open to all ages and skill levels. It runs from June 15 to October 15, with final entries due October 15. Submit final digital files (JPG, PNG, or PDF) by email to parmahiltonhistory@gmail.com. In the submission email, please include your name, phone number, the title of your picture, and the location taken. More than one entry per person is permissible. Patriotic and local community themes are encouraged. Winners will have their pictures published in a 2027 community calendar.
