Inclusive Grand Opening and Kayak Clinic at Churchville Park

Learn How to Use the Accessible Kayak Launch

The public is invited to an Inclusive Grand Opening & Kayak Clinic on Tuesday, July 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., to mark the 2026 opening of the accessible kayak launch at Churchville Park.

Churchville-Riga Chamber of Commerce and Rochester Accessible Adventures have partnered for this community event to celebrate a major milestone in local outdoor recreation, ensuring that adaptive water sports are available to individuals of all abilities.

“Our community has long recognized that Black Creek is an amazing amenity situated right here in our front yard,” says Natalie Grace, President of Churchville-Chili Chamber of Commerce. “When we installed this BoardSafe adaptive kayak launch in 2025, we knew immediately that we had taken a big step in intentionally inviting ALL of our community members to experience the beauty and benefits of spending time outdoors. This inclusive opening event is the next phase: inviting everyone to come learn how to use the new equipment.”

“We are thrilled to be a part of this inclusive event that opens doors to new adventures for so many more people,” says Anita O’Brien, Executive Director of Rochester Accessible Adventures. “It is the goal of every community to make sure that people who may not previously have had access to outdoor recreation are directly invited to participate alongside their family and friends. This uniquely designed BoardSafe kayak launch is no exception: It has features that make kayaking a possibility for people of all ages, no matter what happens to us across our lifetime. From bad hips and knees to a disability diagnosis – let’s get outside and go kayaking!”

Event Highlights Include:

  • Kayak Clinic: Facilitated by Rochester Accessible Adventures and Erie Canal Boat Company to demonstrate features of the new launch, help participants try out the launch and additional adaptive kayak equipment, including outriggers, an upright supportive seatback with side arm options, and a paddle pedestal for one-hand paddling and/or to ease shoulder fatigue. Demo kayak equipment will be provided. Guests will be invited to get in and paddle around a marked area.
  • Food Trucks: Local food trucks offering dining options.
  • Vendors & Community Resources: Tables featuring regional organizations providing inclusive activities and resources, including Stony Point Arts Studio & Gallery

By combining the Chamber’s local business network with Rochester Accessible Adventures’ inclusion expertise, this partnership ensures the launch will immediately serve as a hub for accessible recreation. It is open to the public.

The event will be held at Churchville Park, located at 46 Park Road. In case of inclement weather, the designated rain date is Tuesday, July 14.
