Fifth Annual Billy Mason Memorial Scholarship Awarded

Golf Tournament Fundraiser July 18
The Board of Directors of the Billy Mason Memorial Foundation has selected Allison Moss and Paolo Cancellieri, Spencerport Class of 2026, as the recipients of a $2,500 scholarship awarded in Billy’s memory. Billy was a well-known Spencerport resident and three-sport star at Spencerport High School from 1969 to 1971. After his death in May of 2021, friends and family established the Foundation in his memory.
The Billy Mason Memorial Scholarship Fund honors Billy’s commitment to athletic excellence, leadership, work ethic, and personal integrity by awarding a scholarship to like-minded student athletes. In so doing, the Foundation hopes to help young athletes and students fulfill their potential while exhibiting the same characteristics that Billy embodied. The scholarship is open to student-athletes attending a four-year college or trade school, or who are entrepreneurs intending to open their own business.
Nino Pilato, Allison’s soccer coach the last few years, says Allison “has earned the respect of her teammates, opponents, coaches, and teachers through her hard work and positive attitude. This reputation stems from her relentless work ethic, dedication, and passion for learning. Most importantly, throughout the years, she has shown great discipline, sportsmanship, and an understanding of the value of teamwork and how it relates to school, soccer, and everyday life.” Allison plans on attending Kutztown University and wants to pursue a career as an Elementary School Librarian.
Paolo’s teacher, Katie Wyant, says he has proven to be a dedicated, well-rounded, and independent individual with a passion for learning. Paolo was a member of the boys JV soccer team during his freshman and sophomore years and the varsity team as a junior and senior. On those teams, he stepped up as a leader and was viewed as a role model by his peers; he was voted captain for his sophomore and senior years. His soccer coach, Domenico Colaprete, saysPaolo has always led with heart. He volunteered his time with the Spencerport Soccer Club, coaching and mentoring younger athletes during youth clinics—passing on not just his soccer knowledge, but his positive attitude and sense of community. Paolo plans to pursue a career in physical therapy.
The Billy Mason Memorial Foundation is holding a fundraising golf tournament on July 18 at Timber Ridge Golf Club to continue to be able to fund scholarships in Billy’s memory. To register to play, volunteer, make a donation, or be a sponsor, go to BillyMasonMemorialFoundation.org.
