PHHS Produces Two America 250 Keepsake Booklets

The Parma Hilton Historical Society has created two keepsake booklets to commemorate the Semiquincentennial—America’s 250th birthday. Both focus on the Revolutionary War and the Revolutionary War veterans who settled in Parma and are buried there.

The first booklet combines historical information about the Revolutionary War, coloring and activity pages, and brief descriptions of the veterans buried in Parma. Written by Nancy Leport and illustrated by Margaret Whelehan, using Shirley Cox Husted’s Heroes in Homespun as source material, it offers interesting facts and fun activities. Created for school-age children, the booklet is also enjoyed by many adults.

The second booklet, created by Amanda Dudley, is a guided tour of the final resting places of Parma’s Revolutionary War veterans. With gravesite coordinates, maps, and descriptions of the veterans, this booklet is a great resource and a way to pay respect to those who fought to make this country free 250 years ago.

There is no charge for either book, but donations are appreciated. They will be available at the Parma Hilton Historical Society’s building, at Summer Smash (July 24 from 5 to 10 p.m. at Parma Town Park), and at the Parma Public Library. Pick one up before they are gone, learn something new, and gain a deeper appreciation for what these men endured so we can celebrate 250 years of freedom.
