Daniel’s Race Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Proceeds Support Local Family Battling Cancer
Marking two decades of community compassion, sun safety advocacy, and support for families in need, the 20th Annual Daniel’s Race 5K will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, on the Churchville-Chili school campus. This milestone year kicks off early with the companion Lil’ Bro Golf Scramble on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
Founded twenty years ago by neighbors rallying around 14-year-old Daniel Myslivecek during his battle with Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma, Daniel’s Race has evolved into a vital annual legacy event. Each year, the event raises awareness for melanoma prevention while directly assisting a local family navigating a child’s life-threatening illness. This year, all proceeds will benefit the family of Morgan Santiago of Gates, alongside continued support for a dedicated scholarship at Churchville-Chili High School and the Samaritan Fund at Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Morgan was born at 33 weeks after a rare spontaneous fetomaternal hemorrhage, losing 66% of her blood and developing severe anemia and hydrops fetalis. She was delivered by an emergency C-section and required extensive life-saving treatment, including multiple blood transfusions, intubation, and treatment for fluid around her lungs and heart. After a pulmonary hemorrhage and time on an oscillator, she slowly started to recover.
After 63 days in the NICU, Morgan came home and continues to progress at her own pace. She has since been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and a rare hearing condition, Auditory Neuropathy. Though her future is uncertain, Morgan is resilient, and her family is determined to give her the best possible outcome.
