Churchville Luminaria Ceremony Raises Funds for American Cancer Society

The 12th Annual Churchville Luminaria Ceremony, held on Wednesday, August 5, was once again a successful fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
The event followed a performance by Blue Sky, which was part of Riga Recreation’s summer concert series. The popular local group has participated in the concert series for the past 20 years.
Luminaria bags are purchased in honor of cancer survivors or in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Members of the Churchville-Chili LEO Club and the Churchville Lions Club decorate the bags, which are illuminated with glow sticks and placed along the brick pathway at the Village of Churchville Memorial Park.
Donors are encouraged to walk the path to locate their purchased luminaria. At the end of the evening, they may take the bag home as an additional remembrance of their loved one. The glow sticks continue to shine for several days.
The event raised $1,250, and all proceeds were donated to the American Cancer Society.
