Obituaries for October 9, 2026

BROCKPORT: Donn, Charles G., died September 21, 2026, at age 83. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helaine; daughters, Angela (Jeffrey and grandson, Eli) and Adrienne (Robert, Jack, and Sawyer); sister, Carol; and many cousins, friends, and other relatives. Charles served in the United States Air Force and enjoyed taking an Honor Flight last fall. He worked in Human Resources until retirement 20 years ago. Volunteering with the Rotary, he was distinguished as a Paul Harris Fellow. Charles had a love of tennis, was an avid reader, and loved the Phillies. He spent long days in his pool and garden. His wry sense of humor and protective spirit endeared him to many. 

A Military Burial Service will be held in Western New York National Cemetery in Corfu, NY, on November 6 at 11 a.m. Donations in his memory can be made to Hope For Hypothalamic Hamartomas at www.HopeForHH.org. Arrangements entrusted to Fowler Funeral Home Inc., Brockport.  

HAMLIN: Ophardt, Jacqueline H., died October 1, 2026, in Denison, Texas, at age 90. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard H. Ophardt Sr.; parents, John and Anne Neuner; stepson, William Ophardt; and sister, Barb Neuner Wagner. She is survived by her children, Barry Johnson, Christine (Rich) Messmer, and Mark (Michelle) Johnson; stepchildren, Sherri (Gregory) Rodgers, Howard (Wendy) Ophardt Jr., Diane Bigelow, and Daniel (Jeanette) Ophardt; grandchildren, Nicole Johnson, Tanya (Mo) Taguri, Bailey Johnson, Amber Johnson (Brandon Dickerson), and Harlie (Johnathan) Hall; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jacqueline retired from Eastman Kodak Company as a group leader in the Camera Manufacturing Department. She enjoyed gardening and canning. She loved to go on cruises and was a regular at the Hamlin VFW, where Howie was the post commander.

Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, October 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., 735 East Avenue, Hilton, where Jacqueline’s Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 23, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Parma Union Cemetery immediately following the service. Donations in her memory can be made to the Hamlin VFW Post 6703, 1739 Lake Road, Hamlin, NY 14464.

HILTON: Stover, Donald Jerome, died October 1, 2026, at age 92. He was born in Kingston, PA, to the late Alexander T. and Ethel M. Stover. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marion; second wife, Jean; brothers, Alex Stover Jr., David C. Stover, and Robert W. Stover; and sisters, Mary E. Stover, Caroline C. Miller, Ethel H. Heylek, Shirley M. Rosengrant, and Barbara A. Abraham. He is survived by his beloved sisters, Rose M. Gregor (West Wyoming, PA) and Ruth Stover Canale (San Francisco, CA); nephews, Stephen J. Heylek and Sean J. Canale; nieces, Debbie L. Stover and Ruth H. Heylek; numerous other nieces and nephews and their families; and many stepchildren and step-grandchildren. Don worked in production on the high-speed press at Delco Products – I.T.T./VALEO, until his retirement. Don was a devout member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Don loved his vegetable garden and spending time working outdoors. An animal lover, he lovingly cared for the many dogs he had throughout the years. He also took great joy in feeding the wild birds and the many other wild animals that visited, especially Posse.

Family and friends are invited to call Saturday, October 10, from 12 to 1 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 1 p.m. at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., 735 East Avenue, Hilton. Interment in Parma Union Cemetery immediately following the service. Donations in Don’s memory can be made to the Craig A. Goodrich Dog Shelter, 80 Railroad Avenue, Hamlin, NY 14464-9598.

HOLLEY: Engert, Kevin Jason, age 38, died October 5, 2026. He is survived by his mother, Petra; father, Walter Engert Jr.; son, Rayden; sisters, Simone and Janien; brother, David; and cherished German grandmother (Oma) Waltraud. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was born July 15, 1988, in Erlangen, Germany. He grew up with a deep love for creating and building, always happiest when working with his hands and bringing complex ideas to life. Kevin had a gift for humor—he loved making people laugh and could brighten any room with his quick wit and playful spirit. He graduated from Holley Central School and remained closely connected to the community throughout his life.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no public services. A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held on his birthday, honoring the joy, laughter, and love he shared with everyone who knew him.  Arrangements entrusted to the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Holley.

SPENCERPORT: Hurley, Charles Harold, died October 2, 2026, at age 81. He was predeceased by his wife, Janice. He is survived by sons, Nathan and Evan; granddaughter, Mariah; and pet poodle, Gabi. Harold earned a bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg State College, PA, and a PhD from the University of Toledo, OH. He served Roberts Wesleyan College as a tenured full Professor in the English Department for more than 40 years, where he published numerous articles, professional journal entries, and books, while becoming a world-renowned Ernest Hemingway Scholar. He was a Philadelphia Phillies fanatic.

All Services will be held privately. Interment in North Chili Rural Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Walker Brothers Funeral Home, Spencerport.

SPENCERPORT: Ozminkowski, Richard H., died September 23, 2026, at age 87. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Jenat, and sister, Carol. He is survived by his second wife, Cheri Ozminkowski; the mother of his children, Patricia Ozminkowski; children, Rich (Pam) Ozminkowski, Tim (Jen) Ozminkowski, Chris Ozminkowski, and Charlie (Erik Johnston) Ozminkowski; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Madeline, Zachary, and Hannah; brothers, Robert (Carol) Ozminkowski and Tom (Janet) Ozminkowski; and nieces and nephews. Richard was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed farming and had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his dogs and cats. He was proud of his Polish heritage, which was an important part of his life and family traditions.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory can be made to Cracker Box Palace, Box 174, Alton, NY 14413. Arrangements entrusted to the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Hilton.
