Knights of Columbus Saint John XXIII Council Receives Top Award

Knights of Columbus Saint John XXIII Council 7707 in Spencerport was awarded the Star Council distinction, the international organization’s top honor for local councils.

The Star Council Award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of growing membership, promoting Knights of Columbus insurance benefits, sponsoring Catholic faith formation programs, and volunteering time through service-oriented activities.

Under the leadership of Grand Knight Pat McAuliffe, the council provided support to three different seminarian candidates for the priesthood. In its Food for Families program, the council collected over 3,000 pounds of food for area families in need. The council held a Keep Christ in Christmas coloring contest for local children and donated over 300 winter coats to local children in need. Council members and their wives participated monthly at St. Peter’s kitchen, preparing over 300 meals each time for the low-income and unhoused in Rochester. The council has donated funds to support Problem Pregnancy Center, Special Olympics, and many other charitable organizations, and has held several different youth events and spiritual programs for its members and the community.

The Knights of Columbus is one of the world’s leading fraternal and service organizations with over 2 million members in more than 16,000 parish-based councils. Membership is open to men 18 years of age or older who are practicing Catholics in union with the Holy See.
