Saints win on senior night

Churchville-Chili shot 15-of-18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to overcome what was a ten-point deficit and defeat Brockport 52-50 in girls basketball on the Saints’ senior night.

A see-saw second quarter featured eight lead changes and results in a 22-21 Brockport lead at the half.

The Blue Devils built a ten point advantage in the third quarter with Rachel Benedict and Brionna Blocker accounting for a combined ten points.

But the Saints closed the third quarter on a 6-0 run to tighten the game back up on a free throw by Jessica Hyde plus field goals from Mara Zimmerman and Brooke Ennis.

The Blue Devils held their lead through the first three minutes of the fourth quarter before the Saints tied the game on a drive by seventh-grader Emily Tabone and took the lead on a lay-up by Hyde with 4:07 remaining.

The remainder of their points came from the free throw line as Ennis, Tabone, Hyde and Skylar Burgess shot a combined 12-of-14 in the closing minutes.

Tabone, playing in just her sixth varsity game after being called up from the JV squad, led the Saints with 14 points. Hyde finished with 13 points, Ennis 11 points with five rebounds and Burgess had a team-high five steals to go with five rebounds and six points.

Blocker led the Blue Devils with 23 points, Benedict had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds, Bryn Hayes had a pair of treys and eight points and Alyssa Morrison added six points.

Churchville-Chili seniors Brooke Ennis and Jessica Hyde were honored prior to their final regular season home game.
