Jerry M. D’Andrea

•D’Andrea, Jerry M., Albion, age 100, died peacefully at his home February 24, 2015 surrounded by his family.

Jerry was born 2/2/1915 in Alfedena, Italy to Pietro and Ida(Monacelli)D’Andrea and at the age of 12, came to the United States.  Mr. D’Andrea was a United States Army Veteran of WWII having participated in the Battle of St. Malo in France.  It was during this fight that he was wounded twice and received a Purple Heart Medal with one Cluster.  He also served in Scotland and in England during his service.  Jerry was awarded the Service Ribbon with 3 stars as well as The Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.  Jerry was a member of Holy Family Parish.  In 1956, he and his wife opened The Family Shoe Store on East Bank Street in Albion and ran that store until 1976.  When he retired from the shoe business, Jerry worked for several years in the Albion School District as a substitute with the custodial staff.

Mr. D’Andrea was predeceased by his sister: Ida Kaleta, a brother Albert D’Andrea, a son-in-law Thomas Thompson, and a grandson Robert Thomas.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years Cleda, his children:  Anita Thompson of Fairport, Peter D’Andrea of Albion, his brother Elio D’Andrea of Albion and his grandson Charles Thompson of Brighton as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Jerry’s Mass of Christian Burial as well as interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery will be held at a later date and will be announced prior to those events.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a Charity of your choice.  Arrangements were made by Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. of Albion.
