Gates-Chili Rotary serves the community above all else

Rotary Clubs throughout the nation and the world have as their motto, “Service Above Self.” Members of the Gates-Chili Rotary Club truly exemplify this motto.

This fall, some of the activities in which they have been involved include: an annual distribution of dictionaries (over 500 to third grade students in ten schools in the Gates, Chili and Churchville area); 263 pounds of food collected for St. Theodore’s Food Cupboard; and, in cooperation with the Churchville High School Interact Club (Rotary sponsored), eight boxes of toiletries and four boxes of food snacks collected and sent to service personnel in Afghanistan.

The Rotary Club also held a Pasta Dinner at the Italian-American Club as a fundraiser to raise monies in support of many local community needs. In addition, members of the club arranged a reception committee that attended each of the Veterans’ Honor Flights arrivals at the Monroe County Airport.

Membership in Rotary provides individuals the opportunity for a higher level of community service than as an individual.  Membership is not restricted; it’s open to those who desire to serve. If anyone is interested in becoming a member of a Rotary Club, visit their website, follow them on Facebook or email secretary Ernestine Kamp at kampfe@rochester.rr.com for more information.
