Tri-County Youth Hockey hosted their annual David Bigelow Memorial Tournament March 10 through 13, which attracted area hockey teams at the squirt, pee wee and bantam levels. The tournament started Thursday evening and ended with the championship games on Sunday afternoon.

Tri-County’s Squirt team opened the tournament with a win on Thursday night against Batavia. The goal scorers of the game included Josh Esposito, Makenna Fagan and Preston Bowman. Sydney Horn managed to assist both Josh and Makenna with their goals to make the final score 4-0.

An early morning game on Saturday against Webster had some great defensive play by Elizabeth Kent, Lara Lisowski, Cooper Shaffner, Jack Sheflin and Cameron Rowley. Goalie Ryan White and the defense held off Webster with a 2-1 win for the second game of the tournament. After a challenging game on Saturday evening, Tri-County’s Squirt team headed to the championship on Sunday afternoon.

Tri-County met Webster on the ice again for the last game and battled until the end.  Each team only scored one goal throughout the game. Ben Best, Katelyn Bovee, Tyler Lloyd, Curry Baldwin and Arie Decker gave it their best effort to try and shoot another goal into the net, but regulation time ran out and the game went into a shoot-out.

It wasn’t until the second group of skaters rotated through the shoot-out line up that Levi Squillante made a goal and Tri-County won the championship trophy in their home rink.
