Wesley S. Potter

Holley: Wesley S. Potter age 90 died September 2, 2016 at his home. He was born December 29, 1925 in Clarendon, a son of the late Harold and Olive (Symonds) Potter and had lived in this area all of his life.

Wes was a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Jewell Buckman Post #529 of Holley. Following the Army he owned and operated Potter’s Store in Clarendon and was also the former Post Master. After selling the store, Wes worked as District Sales Manager for the Gannett Newspaper in Rochester, retiring in 1985. He was an avid sports follower; he loved the NY Yankees, horse racing, but most of all he loved watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Marilyn (Downey), sister Haroldine (John) True. He is survived by his children W. Shawn (Tara) Potter of Greece, Shelly DelCorvo of Holley, Brett Potter of Albion, Shannon (Scott) Collins of Holley, Rodney (Rebecca) Potter of Chili, Cathy (Charlie) Brownell of Hamlin, Stephanie Potter of Greece; 16 grandchildren including Ian, Ryan, Douglas, Emily and Bobby Potter, Jamie Hill, Kelly and Nicky Henion, Tyler and Corey Winter, Brendan Collins; several great-grandchildren; brother Wyatt Potter of NC; sister-in-law Beverly Downey of Holley; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 16650 State Rte. 31 Holley on Sunday from 2-4 where his Funeral Service will follow at 4pm with Full Military Honors at the Funeral Home.
