Saints netters sweep host Hilton
After handily winning the first set, Churchville-Chili found themselves trailing the second by as many as eight points, but rebounded and eventually swept the Cadets 25-13, 28-26, 25-21 in girl’s volleyball.
The Saints opened up a 3-0 lead in the first set on a combined block from Madison Elam and Sydnie Brown and opened their lead to 14-8 on a kill by Avery Elam. Kills from Emily Kuhlkin and Brown, an ace by Jenna Prewasnicak and a pair of kills by Rachel Chapman finished off the game one victory.
The second featured six lead ties through the early going before Hilton jumped out to a 16-8 lead on consecutive blocks by Kate Noel. But the Saints offense rallied with an ace from Bella Orologio, and ace and kill by Madison Elam plus a pair of kills by Chapman to tie the contest 17-17.
C-C used several Hilton errors and kills from Madison Elam and Chapman to build a 22-17 advantage, but it was Hilton’s turn to rally with Noel and Kylie Ashline leading the offense.
Tied at 24-24, Saints Chiara Rota registered an ace for the one-point lead, but the teams traded points until another ace by Emma Draper and a defensive error allowed the Saints to eke out the win.
The final set was equally close with 14 lead ties, including 20-20 before Draper registered a late kill to complete the sweep.
The 6-4 Saints were led by Madison Elam and Rachel Chapman’s six kills each while Bella Orologio was tops with 18 digs.
Ashline finished with five kills and seven digs for the Cadets, Megan Loomis four kills and nine digs while Noel led with six blocks.
