Eight wrestlers registered pins for Spencerport in their 69-10 trouncing of Pittsford and four College at Brockport competitors followed suit in a 35-12 victory over RIT in a high school-college wrestling doubleheader.
Jacob Heyward began the high school match wining by forfeit and Ryan Cottom followed with a fall in 1:46 at 285 lb.
Dom Vinci was awarded a forfeit at 99 lb. before Seth Russo (106 lb.) took a 9-1 lead into the second period prior to pinning his opponent in 2:32.
Mike LoPresti (2:28 at 120 lb.), Tyler Mitchell (:49 at 132 lb.), Mike Vinci (3:38 at 145 lb.) and Dexter Craig (2:37 at 152 lb.) all registered pins.
Josh Falbo, who moved up one class, won via fall in 3:13 at 170 lb. and Elliot Cherniss (195 lb.) pinned his man in 2:45.
Defending Monroe County Tournament champion Mason Wersinger built a 5-0 first period lead before his 8-2 decision at 138 lb. At 160 lb. Dom Ferranti moved up and picked up second and third period escapes before hanging on to a 4-3 decision. And Justin Fargnoli secured five second period points on an escape, takedown and near fall, but eked out a 5-4 decision.
“We’re trying to get the guys to do the right thing and they are constantly improving, but we always want more,” Spencerport head coach Dan Glover said.
The Rangers earlier this season finished second in the 22-team Cicero-North Syracuse tournament.
Spencerport grad and College at Brockport returning All-American Jonathan Haas began the college match with a second period pin in 4:05 and senior classmate Dillon Stowell followed at 133 lb. winning by fall in 2:09.
Junior Donald McCoy garnered at least four points in every period on his way to a 15-5 major decision at 141 lb. before senior Sean Peacock registered a quick fall in 1:11 at 149 lb.
Junior Richard Mills made his 8-0 first period advantage stand up in an 8-4 decision at 165 lb. and freshman Thaddeus Jeffries dominated his 184 lb. third period with eight points in a 16-4 major decision.
Returning All-American and junior Triston Engle finished off his 197 lb. opponent in 4:39.
The Golden Eagles will resume their season January 13 and will recognize their seniors January 23 versus Alfred State. They entered the semester break ranked 14th in the nation according to D3wrestle.com.
