Rob Carges oversees final meeting as Sweden supervisor; Kevin Johnson sworn-in as new supervisor

Outgoing Sweden Supervisor Rob Carges wrapped up 24 years of service as a member of the Sweden Town Board December 28, during the board’s regular end of year meeting.

Councilperson Bob Muesebeck recognized Supervisor Carges during the meeting, noting that Carges had spent more than 1,000 Tuesday nights at the town hall for meetings, and voted on 3,200 resolutions.

Muesebeck also discussed highlights of Carges’ more than two decades as a member of the town board, including the acquisition of the Sweden Town Park, the building of the Seymour Library, establishment of water and sewer districts, and keeping a very low tax rate for property owners.

“We are going to miss his knowledge,” Muesebeck said of Carges. “If we need you, we’re going to call you.”

Supervisor Carges said that not going to the town hall on Tuesday evenings will be a, “big adjustment for me … I’ve enjoyed most every minute … the citizens of Brockport and Sweden are really great people as are all who work at the town and the town board members,” Carges said.  “I wish my successor the best of luck.”

Councilperson Lori Skoog remembered that Carges had been her student during her first year teaching at the Campus School.  “I never in a million years would have guessed that we would both be on the town board together,” Skoog said.

Newly elected Sweden Supervisor Kevin Johnson took the oath of office January 2 along with newly elected councilperson Patricia Hayles, Town Justice Anthony Perry, and Town Clerk Karen Sweeting.  Councilperson Robert Muesebeck was sworn-in as deputy supervisor.

“I hope to accomplish a lot for you to make your lives better,” Johnson told town residents in attendance.

Johnson was sworn-in by Dr. Donald E. Bain, president emeritus, St. John Fisher College and past town justice, Town of Williamson.  Johnson is a former undergraduate student of Bain.  Bain said Johnson has always made sure he was “exquisitely prepared,” for the demands of his studies, his work and his community service efforts.
