Blue Devils fall to Titans
Brockport managed only four field goals and four free throws over the first 16 minutes and trailed at halftime before falling to Webster-Thomas 51-47 in boys basketball.
The loss marked Brockport’s third in a row and seventh against one win since the holiday break after beginning the season 6-2.
Senior co-captain Kyle Palka hit a lay-up and junior Esten Schalge a three-pointer along with a pair of free throws by Shamar Lee in the first quarter as Brockport fell behind 13-7.
Junior Troy Leibert opened the second quarter with a lay-up and later knocked down two free throws and kept the game within reach by taking five charges, but Thomas led 20-13 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Blue Devils closed to within four points on a steal by Lee, to within three on junior co-captain Sam Velletri’s trey and later to within two points of the lead on another Velletri three-pointer as they outscored the Titans 13-11 in the stanza.
They also won the fourth quarter as both senior Ishmael Hannah and Leibert came alive offensively, but the Titans hit seven-of-eight from the free throw line in the final minute to secure the win.
Leibert was the only Blue Devil in double-figures with ten points. Velletri and Hannah each finished with eight points while Lee and Schalge each added six points.
The team had four games remaining in the regular season with Senior Night celebrations on February 12 prior to their game against Pittsford-Mendon.
